The trainer coming from the ruins wasn't the only one out and about at the time; coming from the Goldenrod side of the route, one had an easier time since the road kept to a civilized sort and a clearer path at the start. Of course, it refused to stay that way; once one was out of sight of the route checkpoints, you were swallowed up by the wilderness that tried to overtake the trio of cities surrounding it. With Goldenrod, Ecruteak, and Violet all around the area, it was more impressive to Ferris that this place managed to remain as rough as it was. This certainly was like her home; back in Orre, everything was rough and overgrown with dust. Certain parts of that region had the greens and blues of life, but only after mankind and Pokemon had given sweat and blood to ensure it would work out.
Thinking of home didn't sit well with Ferris. She wasn't one to dwell like that, she had the here and now to focus on. Looking around and seeing nothing, Ferris gave a low whistle, and in a short moment the Mudkip she had been seeking popped back out. The water-type gave a yip of happiness and ran in circles around her. "Alright, Captain, stay close. No need getting lost." The Mudkip heard her, of course, and immediately did what the little guy thought was best: barked out more noise and bolted forward into the underbrush. Great. Ferris stood still for a moment to try and ignore the obvious disinterest in being an obedient Pokemon before moving to follow.
The Mudkip would be the first to stumble upon new persons of interest; namely, by jumping from the brush and barking out at the Torchic and Honedge it had discovered. More Pokemon! New Pokemon! Captain had no idea who they were but they were here, and so the Mudkip investigated the only way it knew how; getting too close and too personal.
The Mudkip scurried ahead of their trainer, practically hopping with its four-limbed walk as it explored the area around it. One moment, the little one was peering into the nearby grass; the next, it was rolling into the dirt-road beneath it, getting a nice coating of brown dust that it shook off. With what was as close to a bark as the creature could create, it excitedly wagged its tail-fin, staring at its owner.
The trainer in question - Ferris - was keeping a steady pace behind, walking with intent. She had been keeping to the Goldenrod area for now, since having arrived in this area; it was familiar to her hometown, and her Mudkip had plenty of room for these walks. She didn't want to push it; she hadn't done any training with her partner since they arrived in Johto. It was probably about time to do something about that. Ferris paused in her step, looking around her as the water-type yipped at her. There was a sizeable path off the main road that seemed to be almost overgrown with grass in sections. It would make for a good spot to find some of the local wildlife and use it as a learning opportunity for one of her two Pokemon. She pointed for her Mudkip to see and began to push forward into the new turf.
"Alright, Captain. Find yourself a sparring partner. We're going to work on those newer attacks you learned," she started, continuing on in a quiet tone, "or I can have Arthuria get used to working with you, if you'd prefer..." Not like it made a huge difference. Both of them needed a good work-out, and something out here was going to provide it.
The fin on Mudkip’s head acts as highly sensitive radar. Using this fin to sense movements of water and air, this Pokémon can determine what is taking place around it without using its eyes. In water, Mudkip breathes using the gills on its cheeks. If it is faced with a tight situation in battle, this Pokémon will unleash its amazing power—it can crush rocks bigger than itself.

These mysterious Pokémon evolve when they receive electrical stimulation while they are in the same place as Shelmet. For some reason they evolve when they receive electrical energy while they are attacking Shelmet.
