Anneke felt her mouth curl into a relieved smile when Severus - the man she was apparently wining and dining tonight - assured her that the papers would make their way into the right hands, and that everything would be fine in terms of her contract. Nodding, she folded her hands in front of herself and smiled a little more when he suggested opening the champagne.
It was a cause for celebration, was it not? Her grandparents would be able to keep the farm, and Anneke could keep doing what she loved, rather than - eugh - going out and having to actually deal with people on a day-to-day basis. A little champagne wouldn't hurt to celebrate.
She graciously accepted the flute that was handed to her and took a delicate, refined sip, the liquid slipping over her palette and swishing between her teeth and lips, before slowly swallowing it after the full savour. It was a nice blend. The bubbles weren't too fizzy, and it wasn't too dry like she found some champagnes to be.
"Lovely." She licked her lips and placed the champagne glass down, before glancing over to the kitchen area. They looked like they were already set ahead on making the first part of the prix fixe menu, so Anneke just leaned back slightly, not slouching, but sitting up perfectly straight. She smoothed her fingers over her handkerchief on the table before folding it over her lap.
"So, how long have you been a ranger, Mr. Dane?" She asked carefully, her head tilting slightly as she watched him with wide, blue eyes. "It seems as though they trust you with important documents, so that must mean a little while..?"
Anneke stared at the man who had walked in. He looked a lot more formal than she would have thought for a ranger, perhaps he took his meetings more seriously than the one she had met in uniform to propose the deal to. She stared for a few awkward seconds, before glancing to his hand and taking it firmly in her own, shaking it.
"Yes, I am. Sorry." She bit her lip and straightened out, tucking her hands behind her back to observe him carefully. He explained why he was late, which was acceptable no matter the cause - she had only been bored - she probably would have waited even longer for less of a reasonable excuse.
After a couple more seconds of her nodding and listening to his reasoning, she pulled her hands out from behind her back and motioned to the table she had been sitting at earlier, which was already set for dinner, only missing the actual food. There was water and a bottle of champagne, as well as place settings for the meal.
"We're seated over here. The rangers already pre-paid, so, whenever you're ready." She moved away from him and went to sit, tucking herself into the seat and pulling herself closer to the table with a soft tchhh of the chair scraping on the floor.
"I brought my half of the paperwork. I imagine that someone will review it and make sure that everything is up-to-date." Anneke pulled some papers from her messenger back and placed them gently on the table, putting a firm hand on top of it. "I appreciate the generosity of the deal." She mumbled quietly, almost like she was embarrassed.
"It means a lot to my family." She finished, before leaning back in her seat. "Please make sure they make it there safely."
Anneke had landed one of her biggest deals yet - a breeder's agreement with the ranger headquarters in Goldenrod. She was due to meet a liaison for the agreement and discuss any terms and conditions they might have towards the whole purchasing of eggs and pokemon, so here she sat as she stared out the window in a small-town restaurant, waiting for the other person to arrive.
Her fingers rapped slowly on the menu as she waited, taking a couple of gentle sips of water every so often to keep her palette quenched. It seemed rather dry today. Either there were a lot of pokemon in the area using fire and electric moves, or there was going to be a drought soon in the area. Either way, she was becoming increasingly bored with just waiting.
After ten minutes past the arrival time - or maybe her watch was just ahead - she stood up and strolled around the little restaurant, taking a look at the little fish tank they had set up along the entrance wall. It had a couple of tropic deep-sea fish, so the tank was tinted slightly so that less sunlight would get in, but people could still see their beautiful colours swimming around the tank.
Smiling, she reached out and touched the glass, but didn't tap, not wanting to disturb the little ones. They seemed pretty happy and well-fed. One even crept up to the tank's edge to stare at the little meaty lump pressed against the side of his home.
"Hello there, little one." She whispered, before jumping slightly as the door opened beside her. She slipped out of the way to let someone in, heart racing at the sudden commotion. "H-hello!" She said quickly, awkwardly. Ugh. Was this even the person she was supposed to meet? She mentally kicked herself.
Anneke sighed softly as she walked through the streets of Saffron, the wind against her hair, blowing the unnatural pink strands back and out of her face as she wandered around the city. Things were going quite well for her breeding farm, and she had come here hoping to sell some eggs to the local gym leader, although she hadn't been there.
So now she was walking around with a bag full of pokemon eggs, wondering where to drop them, or who to sell them off to. Generally people around this area were pretty open to sales, and some even knew her by name and would ask her for some. If it wasn't for the fact that she was terrified to talk to, and generally disliked talking to people, she would have unloaded them a lot sooner.
Anneke was almost about to give up her search when she noticed someone - a man with white hair - walking through the town like he was a tourist as well... And that's when she realized that the man who was walking was from her hometown, and she hadn't seen him in years.
Glancing around quickly, she dove behind a nearby building and held her bag of eggs to her chest, panting heavily from... Wait, why was she hiding? She groaned and smacked her forehead with her palm, leaning her head back on the cold brick wall of the building.
"Shit..." She whispered, before pulled around the corner of the building. Anneke had wound the sack of eggs onto her back, and it was a good thing, because the next thing she knew, her body was colliding with something solid that she knew hadn't been there a few seconds ago.
"Ouch." She rubbed her face and sighed, before looking up, blinking. There was Felix, staring back at her. "... Hey." She mumbled.
