"So, the gist of the plan is, we go in, we look around, we catch things, we climb back out, Trick. It's not that hard, buddy" Ricki explained as she made her way down the old rickety ladder. It was a bit surprising to see her willingly enter a dark and cramped space like this - after all she was rather claustrophobic - but after hearing how wide open the tunnels below were, she figured it wouldn't be too much of an issue. Which turned out to be true as her feet gently splashed down on the moist well's floor. Flicking her goggles up off her eyes to rest on her forehead and messily shove her bangs back, it dawned on her a moment later that this well was pretty dark in hindsight.
But this was modern times, y'know? Pulling the pair of goggles on her head back down over her eyes, she tapped a button on the side of the frames and a set of lights flicked on, illuminating the cave ahead of her. The Treecko perched on her shoulder didn't need the light of his trainer's special goggles to really see down here, but Trick could appreciate his trainer's convenient accessory. He climbed down from her shoulder, making his way onto the floor before vanishing into the darkness ahead as the exploration began.
It was something a little new for Ricki, though. Only recently running off from home to become a trainer - less from a desire to be one and more for it being a convenient excuse - she figured she might as well go all out with this path she picked up on. Especially when she caught wind of a certain white-haired dork she grew up near had started travelling around as a certified trainer, too. She'd certainly like to see what kind of team he was building, but for now she needed to focus on building up her own little unique squad. While sticking to hunting for Pokemon on the routes was the more conventional and probably better idea, Ricki figured that she wouldn't really find anything interesting if she went about looking for her Pokemon that way.
She was after Pokemon with a little, y'know... Character? Like the Treecko now on above her on the ceiling using some algae or moss as a make shift wig. Quirking a brow at her little friend, Ricki snorted in amusement and quietly remarked "Get yourself a goatee and I'm sure you'll get all the babes, Trick."
After Ricki's advice to get a goatee, the Treecko on the ceiling relinquished his make-shift all natural wig and dropped down to land on her shoulder. Making her stumble briefly, and with a loud surprised grunt, Ricki scoffed lightly and poked the Pokemon's cheek. "I'm gonna make you walk if you don't go a little easier on me" she softly warned, the Treecko merely making an apologetic chirp. Trick followed the chirp with leaning over to nuzzle his head against Ricki's cheek with another coo, and Ricki couldn't help but relent at that point. Sighing and reaching up to scratch the Wood Gecko Pokemon affectionately, her gaze trailed back ahead to the dark tunnels.
"It's just a singular long tunnel, right?" she whispered to her Treecko, who only shrugged. She pouted in response, but should've figured that in hindsight. Why would the Treecko from Hoenn know anything about some random well in Johto? The two fell silent at that point as they walked, only for Ricki to slow her walk when she reached what she assumed to be what little water remained in the well... Or well...
That was a lot of water, actually. Eyeing the surface, her headlamp's lights were surprisingly helpful with how crystal clear the waters were. She was pretty amazed, right up to the point of spotting a Pokemon looking back at her just as curiously. It sprung to the surface and to Ricki's surprise, it wasn't the typical kind of cave dweller. Or she assumed so. After spotting the Pokemon, she reached into her side pocket, looking away briefly to get out her PokeDex. When she peered back up, flicking open the dex, she was surprised to find the Horsea had... vanished? Shoot. Her lips fell into a flat line as she slowly skimmed the waters until feeling the weight on her shoulder decrease.
Glancing to where Trick had once settled on her shoulder, she saw the Treecko vanish again into the darkness, but the light from her goggles reflected back from his eyes. He scrambled up to the ceiling, again, and the two played a rousing game of I Spy. Ricki made her way up to the edge of the water, walking along the shore line for a few moments, before catching sight of a blue blur zipping past her. She stopped and it rushed past her, again. Her Treecko was quick on the Pokemon's tail, and Ricki found herself unable to do much of anything for the moment aside from watch.
Minutes of the two Pokemon racing around the area ticked by, before the Pokemon she had spotted in the water came to a stop in front of her again. It seemed to look up at her with an annoyed pout, causing Ricki to be confused. Even more so when she saw how the Pokemon seemed to be shaking a bit, like it was... Cold? But she didn't waste the brief pause and quickly pointed her PokeDex at it.
Horsea eats small insects and moss off of rocks. If the ocean current turns fast, this Pokémon anchors itself by wrapping its tail around rocks or coral to prevent being washed away. It makes its nest in the shade of corals. If Horsea senses danger, it will reflexively spray a dense black ink from its mouth and try to escape. This Pokémon swims by cleverly flapping the fins on its back. By cleverly flicking the fins on its back side to side, it moves in any direction while facing forward. It maintains balance using its tail, which is wound up like a coil. Its big, developed fins move rapidly, allowing it to swim backward while still facing forward.
"Ooooh" Ricki softly cooed to herself, before looking back up to see the Horsea had gone from pouting to glaring at her. Blinking in surprise, she held up her hands and took a step back, only to get a a cloud of Smokescreen shot at her face. Coughing and waving her arm to fan away the smoke, the young trainer was baffled by the Horsea's anger towards her. Or maybe it was scared of her? She wasn't sure, but now she was just curious. "Trick!" she called out. "Batter up!"
With a firm chirp back, the Treecko dropped from the ceiling and landed this time on the ground beside his trainer. The Horsea looked to him immediately, and instantly shot the Treecko back with a furious Water Gun. When the Horsea stopped pumping out it's torrent of water though, it was alarmed to see the Treecko hadn't budged at all from the water's impact. In fact Trick shook himself like a dog to whip off the water like it was nothing. The Horsea looked baffled by the sight, only to get caught off guard by the Treecko's next course of action. Glowing green orbs suddenly manifested around the Treecko, and in the next moment the glowing orbs went flying at the Horsea with various super effective impacts. The orbs sank into the Horsea, sapping it's health like leeches, before leaving the Pokemon's body to fly back and sink back into the Treecko. The Horsea didn't stand a chance against the brutal Giga Drain, fainting soon after the orbs flew back to Trick.
By this point, Ricki managed to clear off her goggles of the ink that had been infused with the Smokescreen enough to see the Horsea passed out and slowly sinking into the water. Side glancing her Treecko, finding Trick to just be sitting back by this point like nothing had happened, she frowned slightly as it dawned on her that she had missed the entire encounter. "You never kid around with this shit, do ya?" she grumbled, before pulling out a pokeball. Her first catch, huh? With a deep breath, she chucked the ball out at the Horsea, watching the seahorse be turned into a red light that was absorbed into the pokeball the next moment. At first, she grinned with excitement when it seemed she had nailed the catch... Then she paused as she saw where the pokeball was.
"... Arceus damn it" she grumbled, starting to pull off her shoes and socks. She hadn't exactly planned on swimming, but now she didn't have a choice. "Trick. Stay" she curtly ordered, stepping towards the water. She looked back over at the Treecko... Or where the Treecko had been, only to find the devious son of a bitch had already raced off to investigate other things. This was going to be just one of those days, wasn't it?
