Madcap was a hands on kid. Hands on lighters, hands in pockets, hands up in the air. Said hands were currently playing with a match - unlit, and just flipping between her fingers as she walked on route. Kerosene walked by their side and it was a good day for adventuring. The sun was shining, the birds were singing - and Mad was left walking the routes like a damn amateur. She huffed, shoving hands into her hoodie - match relocated between two canine teeth and the houndour on her right copied said grimace.
"I'm going to die of boredom." Madcap groaned, throwing hands out of the pockets into the air. Mad was a creature of action, a hunger that gnawed on her bones and demanded that things be acted on. Even so, Madcap was taking a break from the usual criminal tendencies for the day and was more focused on "building" a team and "training" her pokemon.
Moving the match from one side of her mouth to the other, the trainer continued to sulk as they walked along - completely ignoring the laid out dirt paths and heading more into the grass. Tickling knees and brushing underbellies, Mad glanced down to her companion. "You see anything?" Madcap asked and was given only a short bark in return. Not something that could easily be deciphered. Perhaps it was the wild terrain that was really sucking the excitement out of Mad.
Mad was a city child, the kind of kid born in the dark alleyways, that ran wild underneath city lights and nothing could compare with the hustle and bustle of a city. There were people, there were parties - there was always something. But what was Mad supposed to do in the country? Kick it up with a bush? No - Madcap didn't roll that way.

Speak of the devil and he appears. Or perhaps the devil's tiny minion. Rustling in the grass ahead of Madcap indicated a pokemon nearby and eyes widened in shock, a smirk then forming on her lips. Raising a single finger to her lips, she shushed the houndour by her side - although being quiet for any longer than five seconds would be quite the feat. "Follow my lead." She said softly, before tiptoeing through the grass - parting at her knees.
Madcap was not a conventional person, let alone trainer and Mad didn't even have a chance to see the pokemon before she herself pounced on the unsuspecting creature. Hey, if a pokemon were to join her team it would have to know from the get-go the trouble it was going to be in.
Sharp points poked into Madcap's hands, followed by a sharp shriek. It was like Madcap had landed on a cactus. Match promptly forgotten, Madcap barely managed to hold onto the fighting nidoran while Kerosene began to circle - sparks flying from it's semi-open jaws. Kerosene was an intimidating fellow - eyes narrowed, teeth clicking together as fire began to build in the back of his mouth and Madcap could feel the nidoran still just for a moment as Kerosene's intimidation tactic worked. But the wild pokemon wasn't easily scared and the fight picked up again.
"Good to see that you are a fighter!" Madcap crowed to the nidoran, as the nidoran wrestled out of Madcap's grip and into Kerosene's ember attack, the fire catching to the surrounding area. Jumping to her feet to avoid being struck by her own pokemon's attack, she watched as the nidoran launched it's body at Kerosene's side, sending him flying.
"Get back up! I know you got fight still left in you!" Madcap encouraged, and Kerosene obliged, ears flicking to the back of his skull before launching back at the nidoran, jaws open and sinking his teeth into the nidoran's side.
The nidoran was indeed a fighter, a regular scrapper and while Madcap was no pokemon expert, Madcap wanted the nidoran on her team. "Keep holding it down." Madcap ordered, struggling to find a pokeball in the plethora of pockets that she owned while Kerosene struggled to keep holding the nidoran while it kicked at the houndour's side.
"Alright!" Madcap said and the houndour broke away with a wince while the pokeball was thrown at the pokemon and Madcap waited with baited breath.

The pokeball stilled with a final click and Mad let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Her hands were sore and she glanced down, seeing scratches were the nidoran's quills had effectively poked her hands. Didn't really hurt, just a sharp sting and now that the battle was done - Madcap could fish out some band-aids from whatever pocket they were currently hiding in.
"Good work." She smiled down to her partner who gave a short, confident bark. Madcap, although a rocket grunt, didn't quite understand why people were so rude or unkind to their pokemon. Yeah, Madcap herself was a little rough on the around edges, a hands-on kind of trainer but that usually meant a friendly wrestling match. Kerosene was her bud, her dude, her main man - the pokemon she had practically raised and the only one that knew Madcap before she was.. Madcap to say simply.
Feeling perhaps a bit nostalgic, she bent down to give the houndour a proper pat on the head. "Still got some fight left in ya?" She asked, not expecting an answer she could understand. But there was still a fire in his eyes and Madcap took that as a yes.
Madcape bent down to pick up the newly acquired pokemon in it's ball when Kerosene let out a sharp bark and the trainer turned. At first, she didn't see it but then the creature / plant wobbled and she grimaced. "What the hell.."
If Madcap had referred to the nidoran as a walking cactus before, then Madcap would have to take back those words because surely, standing in front of them - was indeed a walking cactus.
The trainer grimaced, glancing down to the houndour who held an equally puzzled expression. "Well.. I mean.. Go for it - I guess." Madcap said with a shrug and the houndour took off - sparks flying from it's jaws as smoke billowed from the sides. The fire attack seemed effective and the Maractus seemed to squirm and hiss.
The pokedex in her pocket buzzed but Madcap simply ignored - still puzzling over the pokmon in front of her. She didn't want to catch it - the only use Madcap could see it for it would be an animated coat rack. Even then, a very ugly coatrack.
Kerosene yipped as the Maractus attacked, pin missile sticking into the houndour's side. But the houndour refused to relent and another ember attack scorched the wild around them and the pokemon. Half-heartedly, Madcap threw a pokeball, then turning the attention to her surroundings - promptly kicking dirt and trying to fix the damage that Kerosene had created.
